Southgate Sanctuary

About us:

We are a 501(c)(3) vegan animal sanctuary located south of Alamogordo, NM. Since 2020, we have been rescuing and providing lifelong care to animals in need, and are currently home to 31 residents.

Our mission:

We are committed to providing lifelong care for animals in need while also working to challenge the systems of exploitation that made rescue necessary in the first place. Here, animals are not commodities or resources - they are individuals with their own stories, relationships, feelings, and needs, who deserve safety, love, and respect.

Through our sanctuary work, education, and connecting with community, both in-person and online, we seek to foster compassion, accountability, and a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness with all beings in this world.

At its heart, our sanctuary is both a home for animals and a living reminder that another way of relating to animals - and to each other - is possible. Our work is guided by the belief that how we care for others shapes the world we live in.

“You have to act as if it were radically possible to transform the world & you have to do it all the time.”

- Angela Davis

The majority of our rescues come to us through rehoming situations. We have taken in animals from domestic violence households, families facing deployment, serious health or financial hardship, neglect and hoarding cases, and we’ve sought out animals from small ranches or homesteads where they were being raised for breeding/food.

Make an impact today

Our work is greater through collective action! Every act of generosity - big or small - directly supports the animals in our care and helps make it possible for us to say yes to others in need.
